My first Fanfiction. I love this story. Hope you do, too!
This message board messed up the font... It looks better on FF.
Alone in Mt. Blackhead, me (Baki TwilightFire,) feel so alone yet I’m standing in a crowd. Leaning against the building with What’s-his-face Morbucks out front watching people yelling “BUYING!” “SELLING!” “BUYING!” I’m just standing quietly watching this world flash by. I decide to finally say something.
“Selling rares.”
Complete silence. Did I really influence them to shut up? Did somewhere between the lines say “Shut up?” I got some weird looks and tried to look away. Good thing I had my black swabbie… It helped hide my emotions as best as it could. My eyes though… Completely showed panic. I’m sweating now…. Is that my heartbeat? Only one thought came to mind…
Run.
I turned and bolted. I jumped over the wood fence and landed on the ground with a “Ka-thud.” A little faster now, faster, faster, faster. There I think I lost them. Wait, where am I?
I stopped running. Look left, look right. No one here. I watched a squirrel scurry by as I sat down. I looked around at the barren wasteland that was the earth I was sitting on. I pulled out my map and looked at where I am.
“Huff, huff, huff.”
Before I had the chance to look at my map, I look up to find a Canyon Stalker standing over me.
“OH MY GOSH!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. I quickly sat up and ran as fast as I could. Wait here’s Hex... No, no time to stop and talk I need to keep running. I turned my head and saw a buff black mass chasing after me. I moved too fast to see what was chasing me. It looked like a Canyon Stalker… I jumped on a bounce-pad and up onto the top ledge. Darn it more monsters. Can I never catch a break?
I saw a black swirly-cloud-like-black-thing floating over a ship… No wait, that’s the Nowhere Triangle. I look down and get the worst sense of vertigo ever. That’s never happened before. I have to escape these monsters… I jumped and landed on the ground perfectly. I ran a little faster to escape these evil creatures… I truly blame Fuse for all these problems that I have. Run a little bit farther and jump!
I had run into a barren wasteland that was a desert. Of course, this place was Nowhere. Gosh I should’ve figured. Maybe this is a sign to never come here again, to just stay at home in Sector V. No, I needed to save this world. I am the “Chosen One” and in all the movies they never get off easy.
I laid down on the ground and cried out,
“WHY IS IT ALWAYS ME?! I NEVER ASKED FOR ANY OF THIS!!”
As I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
I woke up seven hours later in a place I didn’t recognize. There was fire everywhere and lava on the ground… Are you kidding? The Fireswamps? I’m only a level 21 and in places I should never be. I then felt a quick jolt of energy in my veins and noticed the adrenaline kicking in. I jumped up off my back and ran as fast as I could. I jumped through fire, over lava, and jumped over a few people who thought I was nuts. I looked down at them as they watched in shock as that same buff black creature was chasing me still. But, how? I thought. It doesn’t matter right now. I need to get away from this creature…
I ran over rocks and other strange things running like heck to get away from what was chasing me. I have no idea how this thing followed—no, brought,—me here. Gosh I hate my life so bad right now. As I looked at the sky I saw no sun. I instead saw planet fusion blocking the sun plunging the Fireswamps into complete darkness. Good thing I can see in the dark pretty darn well. If I couldn’t I’d have to wait ‘till morning, which is still five hours away.
I had finally made my way to Forsaken Valley, and went and talked to the K.N.D. Agent that stood in front of the scamper. He agreed to take me to Peach Creek Commons, if I paid him 1000 taros extra. I looked in my wallet, good thing I’m so rich… 140562 taros is good enough for me right now. I paid him and went back to Peach Creek Commons. I then decided to walk to Mt. Blackhead again.
I jumped over a few trees, a couple logs, some confused people, and a fox. I ran as fast as I could to Mt. Blackhead. I had the weirdest sense that I was being watched. Nah, I’m just being paranoid.
“Hello, Two-Face.”
I froze. I slowly turned around to see Sky DrakeHex looking me straight in the eyes. He might be the only person that calls me by that name, after a little “incident” that had happened a few years ago. Accidently spilling very, very, VERY hot coffee on your face and getting burned is not fun. (I STILL have a scar from that…) I looked at him and hugged him and I yelled,
“SKY!!! Don’t ever scare me like that!! I’ve had the weirdest day ever and the last thing I need is you scaring the %$^@ out of me!!!”
“Aww Baki, you know I have a great sense of humor and I love torturing you.”
I thwapped him and looked him straight in the eye and said,
“You evil little--”
Well I shouldn’t have called him little—he’s a foot taller than me. So I then punched him in the chest and I looked at his face. With that crooked smile of his, for some reason he reminded me of Robert Pattinson and I couldn’t help hugging him again. I let go and explained all that’d happened and the thing following me. I then told him how scared I was and actually fearing for my life. Not that I should worry. I would appear at the “nearest Resurrect ‘Em.” No prob really.
I then said, “How about we go for a walk. Just around Mt. Blackhead, we’d stay close to ‘civilization.’”
Him and I both laughed. Ah good times we’ve had. We walk away laughing and him reminding me strangely of Robert Pattinson. I stopped for a minute and looked at him. He turned around and asked me if anything was wrong. I looked at him and said,
“I have no idea why, but you’re really reminding me of Robert Pattinson for no apparent reason. Except maybe that crooked smile of yours.”
He smiled once again and I yelled at him to stop. He stopped and I couldn’t stand it. I just love his smile, his laughter, when he’s happy I feel like I could fly. His happiness means everything to me, especially since he saved me from the Meteoric Guardians when I was lost. He’s saved my life so many times; I don’t know how I could ever repay him. He means everything to me; he’s everything a person should be and more. I’m not in love with him, no. Not in any way do I love him. We’re just close friends who’ve grown closer over the years.
A sudden question popped into my head and I decided to ask Sky.
“Hey Sky,”
“Huh? What’cha need Baki?”
“What would you consider our song?”
“Our song—Hmm. . . Never Too Late by Three Days Grace?”
“That’s a great idea. I was considering Leave out All the Rest by Linkin Park.”
“How about both?”
“Sure.”
As we walked and talked a little more, I noticed we were getting farther and farther away from Mt. Blackhead. Out of the corner of my eye I swore a figure in black watching us. . . Me and my Rober—I mean Sky. Oops. He’s really got my brain tripped up! I instantly thought of a line from That’s What You Get by Paramore; “That’s what you get when you let your heart win.” I tried to convince myself it’s not love. I knew I was right; he doesn’t feel that way. It’s only love if both people feel it, right?
We kept walking. We had walked over to the ruins where we walked over and sat on the crumbling remains of an ancient civilization. We talked a little more; he showed me how to whistle with a piece of grass; we hugged and we watched the sun set. I knew we weren’t in love, just really close friends. As we watched the sun set, Sky noticed something. He turned his head and looked to the left. He then looked to the right and jumped off the old archway we were sitting on. I followed him.
“What’s wrong Sky???”
“There’s someone watching us.”
I watched as he dove into a bush and grabbed a person clad in a black robe, hood up, and zipped closed. I watched as Sky held him with one hand. Sky looked at me and said,
“Pull his hood off.”
So I was about to walk over and pull his hood off when I heard a voice, creepy as heck and somewhat deep.
“No.”
It sounded like exactly like an older teens’ voice. It sounded like it was coming from many different places at once, and I had a sensory overload. I got dizzy and blacked out for a second then stood back up. I grabbed the hood and pulled it off anyway. I heard a scream and looked at the man we had just exposed. He had short black hair with red tips, grey-ish black eyes and a scowl that scared the $&%^ out of me.
“Huh. It’s just some goth kid.” Sky said, letting him go. I looked at Sky, who looked glad that it “was just some goth kid.” He is so overprotective. The goth kid looked at us and said,
“I have a name. It’s Ryk, not that it matters to you. And I was just hiding because,” he sighed, “Baki I think you’re really pretty and I was too scared to tell you that.”
I looked at him in shock and said,
“Sorry, I’m not interested.”
He sighed in defeat and sulked off. I watched as he walked away, his black hair gently swaying in the wind. His short hair reminded me of Dexter in a way. And his black goth robe-like jacket totally reminded me of a dark version of Prof. Utonium. He put his hood up, and stuck his hands in his pockets. Me and Sky walked the other way, over into Devil’s Bluff.
It was getting a little chilly, even though the night had just started. I zipped my hoodie closed and put the hood up. We walked over to where Hex was and me, Sky, and Hex talked for a little while. We asked Hex how he used his magic and if he could teach us. He said it’s not something you can learn, but instead something you’re born with. Oh well.
Suddenly, Sky’s nano-com started flashing like CRAZY. I watched as he stared in horror at his nano-com, seeming in shock of what he was being told. I knew not to interrupt him as I impatiently waited for the message to end. I would twitch as I waited. It was so silent, not even the birds were chirping… I could hear the “tick-tock” of a clock from inside of one of the buildings. The reason it was so silent was because only the owner of the nano-com could hear or see the message.
The message had finally ended the shock in his face still there. The tension in the air growing as we awaited the answer. Hex was just as impatient as me, as we waited for Sky to tell us what had happened. As if Sky somehow read our minds, he simply said, “I must leave.”
I looked at him in shock with an answer that would shock no one, “No.” He looked at me and said, “This is something I must do.” As the tears fell from my eyes I wrapped my arms around him, and squeezed nearly as hard as I could, my face buried in his chest. As the words came out in mumbled sobs yet he clearly understood, I said, “If you leave you take me with you. I really don’t care what you have to do. I’m coming with no matter what you say.” He wrapped his arms around me and said, “You can’t come.” He put his hand underneath my chin to lift up my head so I could look at him. He looked me in the eyes, and said, “This is something I must do alone. You can’t come with me, Baki.” He pried my arms off of him and walked away. I ran after him, I didn’t catch up though. I silently whispered;
“I love you.”
I walked back and I looked at Hex, (who was surprisingly sensitive, he had a soft place for me in his heart, I was one of the few players he liked,) he opened his arms and told me to come here. I walked over and placed my hands by my side, as he wrapped his arms around me and I placed my head on his shoulder and cried.
Three months later,..
Today was the day. The day he returned. The day Sky returned. The day he returned from wherever he went. He said he would return to the place that he originally left from; Devil’s Bluff. As I ran over to where Hex was, he looked at me and said, “He’ll be here any minute now.” Anxious as I was, bouncing on my heels, twitchy and impatient, I waited until I could see his faint outline in the distance. I ran as fast as I could—no, faster, —‘till I was only a few feet away. I hugged him, and yelled with tears in my eyes, “Sky! Sky! Your back! I missed you so much!” He didn’t wrap his arms around me like he usually did. Instead, he looked at me and said in a cold, lifeless voice, “Get. Off. Of. Me. Now.”
I did as he said, and I stepped back. I looked into his grey eyes, (which were usually filled with joy, life, and laughter,) they looked barren. Desolate. Lifeless. I looked at him and said, “Sky? Are you ok?” He looked me straight in the eye, with the same cold, lifeless voice, “There’s nothing wrong with me. I’m fine. Now get away from me.” I started to cry a little, but not letting him see the tear fall, and yelled, “There’s something wrong with you, I know it! I’ve known you for years and I KNOW WHEN SOMETHING’S WRONG!!!”
He looked at me, right in the eyes, and the cold lifelessness of his voice unforgiving. He said, “Everything. You. Know. About. Me. Is. A. Lie.”
I looked at him, in shock. The tears on my face ran as cold as ice. Instead of blushing, my face became cold. And once again, behind him, I saw the same Canyon Stalker thing from earlier. Does that have something to do with all my bad luck…?
Oh my gosh I think I know what’s going on. Stupid me. Stupid, stupid me. I started crying once again, and Hex gestured for me to come over to him again. I walked over and put my face on his shoulder like I had done earlier, and he wrapped his arms around me. I didn’t see but I know he gestured for Sky to get away. Sky left—I could hear his footsteps. A few minutes later as my sobbing lessened, I let go of Hex and decided to go home. Forget this. It was near sunset, and if any monsters get in my way I’d defeat them. In those three months I had gone from 21, to 27. Officially able to enter the Darklands, fearless as ever. I was always fearless though. I always kick monster butt without a second thought.
As I jumped over rocks, I hopped on my hoverboard, flying as fast as I could go. With my tears making a wet trail upon the ground, the only water that barren wasteland would ever have, as the broken glass that was my heart faintly beat in my chest. I made my way to Sector V, ignoring everyone else on my way. People ask me what’s wrong, I give them a broken look, shattered like broken glass, as they back up and whisper, I’m so sorry. My gosh, emotional tension and distress… Just like my favorite movie character… Lost the one he loved and went insane, and ended up dying in the end. He had such a great future as well… No. That’s not going to happen to me.
As I slowly but surely got to Pokey Oaks North, hopping off my hoverboard and attacking any monster stupid enough to attack me first. Surprisingly, I defeated them in one swipe of my blade. How many were there? 20? 30? It didn’t matter. They all came at me at one time. With a single attack I defeated them all. I hopped back on my hoverboard and left as soon as possible. I noticed a few dropped C.R.A.T.E.’s, so I picked them up and left.
I made it to Sector V, took out my keys, unlocked the door, and walked into my house. I walked over to the TV, put my favorite movie in, laid down, and fell asleep before the movie ended.
I dreamed of that day, when he left.
I woke up, tears in my eyes. When I could focus I noticed a blonde with crimson eyes staring at me. I quickly sat up and said, “WHO THE HECK ARE YOU???” He smirked and said, “I am Aeon. Now, Baki, listen. This is very important. ” I looked at him in shock and said, “H-h-how do you know my n-n-name?” He looked at me with a bored expression and said, “Everyone always asks me that question. The reason I know, every Angel knows each other’s name. Simple as that.” I watched as he disappeared and reappeared in my kitchen. It took a minute for what he said to register.
“Wait. Angel? What?”
“You heard what I said.”
He walked over and seemed to grab something from over my head. He lowered it, and it looked like a simple ring of light. I realized then that it was a halo. I looked and him in shock and said, “But how? I’m not special! I JUST LOST THE ONE I LOVE I DON’T NEED ANY MORE STRESS!” He placed his hand on my head and I fell asleep again.
I woke up a few hours later, as if nothing had happened, but his memory was burned into my head. Literally. My head hurt like heck. I noticed “Aeon” had left. I stood up and looked around. I walked out of my front door; still wearing the clothes from yesterday, locked my front door, hopped on my hoverboard, and went to the Sunken Mall in Townsville Center. There was an E.G.G.E.R. here so I decided, why not take a chance? I really don’t want to live up to my nickname, but why not take a chance? Oh my gosh I sound just like him!
I decided against it, and realized that nothing is the same without Sky. He’s probably dead. No, I shouldn’t think like that. And then, I realized the band that was playing. Aero Assault. The band that Sky was the lead singer of…! With 100+ screaming fans, I would have no chance of talking to him. Unless... Unless I followed him home after the show. I really didn’t want to seem like a stalker, but if you have to, you have to.
I recognized the song immediately. Forget This.
“Today I woke up, and looked outside,
Yet all I saw was a thunderstorm in your eyes,
I knew something was wrong yet I had done nothing,
I thought we were still going strong,
Now this broken heart beats for no one.
I tried to love you yet you pushed me away,
You said it’s not over yet you left me today,
I’m trying to get through this day by day.”
Tears started falling from my eyes. I couldn’t take this any longer. Before the first chorus was over I left. I could still kinda hear the song. The last line I heard was, “Forget this, forget this, I don’t want you anymore.” I cried even harder and hopped on my hoverboard. I waited on a hill for the stupid concert to be over. I waited 4 HOURS for the concert to end. I could tell when it ended because he yelled, “Thank you Sunken Mall, GOODNIGHT!” He left and was just about to hop in the tour-bus when I dashed over on my hoverboard and hopped on top of the tour-bus.
I held on for dear life as the tour-bus drove towards Sky’s house.
The bus made a sharp turn away from Sky’s house. What? It headed towards two tall buildings somewhere in Steam Alley. It stopped in front of them, and I saw Sky hop out of the tour-bus. He walked into the alley, and was talking to someone in the shadows. I tensed. Another girl? Sky is so dead! I couldn’t hear anything that they were saying… I hopped off the bus and walked into the alley. They were farther back so the other person was cloaked in shadow. I tensed again.
I couldn’t see the other person very well. From what I actually could see, the other person looked tall and skinny. I knew Sky couldn’t see me. He was locked in conversation with the dark figure. Sky was standing just outside of the shadow, so I could see him perfectly. I stepped forward, and as I did, a hand struck out of the darkness, heading for Sky’s throat. I stepped forward again. I could see the scene better now.
The hand was gloved, a pure white glove, like the kind that fancy people wear, attached to a pale wrist, with the rest of their arm covered in a black sleeve. It wasn’t grabbing Sky’s throat, instead it had his collar and hoisted him against the building wall. (The alley is pretty darn narrow.) The person still cloaked in shadow. I was about to take another step forward to tell the person to let Sky go, but they stepped forward first. Out of the shadows I saw a tall, skinny blonde, blindfolded, with a top hat and very nice suit on, and he was holding a cane. He reminded me of a skinnier, taller version of The Penguin. Of course without the monocle. But still. Eww.
“Sky? What’s going on here?” I asked nervously, waiting for an answer. “Baki? What the— how did— wait—WHY did you follow me?” Sky asked. The mysterious-guy-person-dude-whoever-he-is had a smug look on his face. He let Sky down and walked over to me. Somehow, he knew EXACTLY where he was going. He bowed all nicely and stuff and said, “We haven’t been properly introduced. My name is Black Light. Sky has told me so much about you.” I looked at him and said, “Don’t ever touch him like that again.” Black Light quickly came out of his bow and said, “Ooooh. You’re feisty.”
I looked at him, with an angered look. I really didn’t care who this guy is, or what he was doing here. You touch Sky, you’re dead. End. Of. Story. I tried to punch Black Light in the cheek, but he smacked away my fist with his cane. I forced my fist harder, attempting to break it, before withdrawing. That thing wasn’t normal wood. He backed up a little bit. He looked like he hadn’t even broke a sweat to deflect my punch. And I punched almost as hard as I could.
Sky looked at him and said, “We’ve got matters to discuss.” He looked at me and said, “Baki, leave. This doesn’t concern you.”
“This concerns me in every way. You are—were—my boyfriend. I deserve to know.” I said, defiantly.
“Well, she is feisty. I find that, attractive. Maybe we should tell her, Sky?” Black Light said, “Wait… were? You two were in love? But you two are total opposites…”
“Love is blind.” Sky replied, “Like you. Blind.”
Black Light opened his mouth to start arguing with Sky, but I cut him off by saying, “You know what? You two are starting to tick me off. I want answers, and I want them now.”
Black Light seemed hurt. He was upset I didn’t attempt to defend him. Personally, I don’t really care for the guy. Yes, he is kinda hot… Whether it’s his blond hair, his nice suit, or his personality, I really didn’t care. There was only one guy for me. And that guy seemed to hate me/everything/the world.
“Well, what do you want to know...?” Sky said, seeming ticked.
“I want to know what’s wrong with you. You’re not the Sky I knew. You seem like a total different person and I hate it.” I said.
Black Light interrupted Sky before he could answer. “You see, your Sky, doesn’t think the same way you do. He sides with the ‘winning team’. Unlike you ‘heroes,’ who think that you may be fewer in numbers, but you can still win. That’s a lie. We all know. Sky here, is no longer on your side. And know this; most of what’s happened here, is your fault, and yours alone.”
I suddenly went cold. My fault? All of it was my fault? I thought. I need to speak with that ‘Aeon’ guy again. If only I could find him.
“Is there anything else you wish to know?” Black Light asked. He smiled sinisterly. If it weren’t for that cane I’d… no, I need to stop thinking like that.
“Ok, here’s a good one. Who the @%$# are you? And where did you come from ‘Black Light’?” I asked.
“Who am I? A rejected creation, and a sick joke. A figment of imagination, and darkness incarnate. As for where I came from… I am a creation of Fuse’s own. Aeon’s own darkness created me. ”
“Aeon? You mean that angel guy that broke into my house?” I said, a little freaked out by this situation…
Black Light’s face went blank, from what I could see. He replied a few seconds later, “Yes, that Aeon. If you wish for me to tell you my story, I will. Be prepared. It is a very… tragic story.”
I nodded. Black Light began to explain his story, with his beautiful voice.
“Well, I know this from what I’ve pulled from Aeon’s memories. Aeon loved a girl, beautiful, and mysterious, like you Baki.”
I blushed.
“She ventured too close to Fuse’s lair. Fuse captured her. He almost killed her.” Black Light’s voice was tinted with anger. “I—Aeon—Rushed into Fuse’s lair, and went to save her. Fuse said Aeon had to defeat him if he wished to save his ‘girlfriend.’ Aeon took out all his anger out on Fuse. Fuse launched a ball of energy at Aeon. It split the light and the darkness in his heart. That is when Aeon died for the first time. He came back to life, and when he did, I was created. I launched myself at Fuse and defeated him. I blacked out afterward. I—Aeon—woke up and saved his girlfriend, and walked out. Fuse wasn’t defeated yet though. He’s still alive, terrorizing this world, as you can see. Sadly, Aeon’s girlfriend became a fusion not too much later…”
“That’s so sad…” That was all I could say. “What was her name?” I dared to ask.
“Kyara. Kyara Darkstar.” Black Light said, “When she became a fusion, she dropped her first name. She goes only by Fusion Darkstar now--”
“Enough of these sob stories, and Baki, turn off the water works. And Black Light, stop trying to get sympathy from Baki. I’m glad I don’t care anymore. It’s people like you who make me sick.” Sky said angrily. “Enough questions. Your answers only lead to more questions Black Light. Or should I call you Aeon now? Now that I know the truth. You’re not even real--” Sky was interrupted by Black Light smacking him with his cane.
“Do. Not. Diss. Me. I have done nothing to you. You are faithful to my creator and will respect his decisions.” Black Light hissed, his voice getting deeper and creepier by every word he said, “It wasn’t my idea to do this. If I had my way, I wouldn’t be trapped in this body! I wish to have my own! You have no idea what it’s like to hear voices in your head, constantly telling you ‘this is wrong!’ and ‘stop it Black Light! You’ll get nowhere going down the path of evil!’”
I backed away. I was certain that Black Light was insane.
Black Light thrust the bottom of the cane at Sky’s stomach. Sky cried out, and dropped to his knees in pain. Black Light stood over Sky, casually holding his cane. He then said, “Learn some respect.” Black Light was then about to strike Sky again, before I launched myself at Black Light. I tackled him to the ground, tearing at his blindfold. When I finally got it off of his face, he was surrounded by a bright light, his clothes turning into shadows, and disappearing. He was wearing a normal hoodie, black shirt, and jeans though. He stood up, brushed off his clothes, and looked at me, with gorgeous crimson eyes. He then said, “I’m sorry. Black Light’s being very… Unreasonable. I’m not exactly sure why. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to comprehend the way that he thinks.”
I nodded. I knew Sky hated Black Light. They had one thing in common though; they both almost completely hated me now. “Tell Black Light no hard feelings,” I said casually, trying not to spaz out, staring at this, gorgeous man in front of me.
I looked at Sky, and told him, “Me and Aeon need to talk. We’ll be right back. Don’t move, k?” Sky looked at me, frustrated with me. I heard a metallic sound, then silence. Me and Aeon walked out of the alley, far enough away so Sky couldn’t hear us.
“Aeon, please, tell me what’s wrong with Sky.”
“What do you mean?”
“Sky never used to act this way. He’s like a completely different person.”
“Oh. Well, I’m pretty sure that’s from Black Light’s influence.”
“Well, do you mind telling me what Black Light meant when he said, ‘You see, your Sky, doesn’t think the same way you do. He sides with the ‘winning team’. Unlike you ‘heroes,’ who think that you may be fewer in numbers, but you can still win. That’s a lie. We all know. Sky here, is no longer on your side. And know this; most of what’s happened here, is your fault, and yours alone.’? I’m curious. And why is it my fault?”
“Wow. Uh, I’m not exactly sure how to tell you this but…”
“Say it. JUST SAY IT!”
“Well, someone’s pushy. Sky is… Sky is working for Fuse now. He’s not fighting with humanity anymore. And, according to Black Light’s memories, Sky’s got another girl.”
“WHAT?!!” I couldn’t hide the anger in my voice. “Who is she? What’s her name? I’m going to prove that Sky is MINE!”
Aeon choked a nervous laugh. “Uhmm, well, her name is… Fusion Darkstar.”
“How…?”
“I truly have no idea. Let me guess, you’re going to…,” Aeon’s face went blank. “You’re going to prove to her that Sky’s yours? And you’re going to make sure she never lays a hand on him again?”
“How… How did you know?”
“I can read your mind of course. Ugh. Long story.”
“Oh. Angel stuff. I’m starting to think you’re not even real.”
“Maybe I am. Maybe I’m not.”
I put my hand on his stomach. To my surprise, it went straight through.
“ I’m not solid… Usually I’m solid… Huh. Weird.” Aeon said nervously.
“See? You’re not real. I knew it.”
Aeon suddenly disappeared. So I walked back into the alley, to find Sky in chains.
“Sky? Who did this to you???”
I then realized that he had duct tape over his mouth, so all you could hear was “MHMMMHMMHH!”
I tore the duct tape off of his mouth, as he gasped in pain, breathing heavily.
“Now answer me. Who did this?!”
“Aeon. He’s not the hero you think he is.”
“Oh really? He’s more of a hero than you could ever be.”
“Hero? Hero? Since when did you care about heroes???”
“Now. If Aeon’s a hero than I care.”
“He is no hero. Neither am I.”
“Then I’m on Aeon’s side… Wait. Are you jealous of Aeon?”
“Why would I ever be jealous of a freak like him!?”
I slapped Sky across the face.
“He is no more of a freak than you!”
“Then I’m a complete freak.”
I walked away, leaving him chained, and headed out of the alley. I hopped on my hoverboard, jumped on a jump pad, and on top of a tall building. I stood there, watching the city. It was incredibly beautiful tonight. I started dozing off, and fell asleep on top of the building.
The next morning…
I woke up, in my house. I heard the clanging of pots and pans in my kitchen. I got up, and walked into my kitchen, to find Hex, making me breakfast.
“Hi Hex.”
“Oh, hello young Baki. I see you’re finally awake.” Hex said without even turning around.
“How long was I asleep for?”
“Not too long. Just about… 9 hours.”
“Eh. How long have you been here for?”
“I’m the one that dropped you off. I sensed something happened to you. Remember that building you fell asleep on? Yeah. You almost fell off. I saved you before you hit the ground.”
“Oh. Wow. Sorry.”
“It’s alright. I sense you’re tense. What’s wrong?”
I explained everything that had happened.
“…And that’s why I am the way I am now.”
“I see. I have an idea.”
“What is it?”
“We must go see a friend of mine. His name is Demongo. The soul collector.”
My mouth must’ve been hanging wide open, because of the look Hex shot me.
“So we have to go see Demongo?”
“Yeah. He can probably erase Sky’s evil memories, so he’ll be the nice, good Sky once more.”
Well, I thought, this could be interesting. I ate the breakfast that Hex had made for me, an egg-and-mushroom omelet, with bacon on the side, and freshly squeezed orange juice. (Which is weird ‘cuz I don’t have any oranges in my fridge.) Then, me and Hex set off to Huntor’s Crest, to go find Demongo. I hopped on my hoverboard but had to slow down ‘cuz Hex couldn’t keep up. We talked a little bit, laughed a little bit, and it reminded me of my time with the old Sky.
I sighed. When Hex asked me what’s wrong, I simply said “nothing,” and shook my head. He shrugged as we reached the Sector V S.C.A.M.P.E.R. And guess who’s waiting there for me? Aeon the completely unrealistic freak of nature!
“What do you want, frea—I mean Aeon.” I said. He looked at me with an are-you-serious-I’ve-heard-that-a-billion-times kind of look. He rolled his eyes and looked at me. He then said, “Like I haven’t heard that before. Last time you said that to me was… 10 years ago?” I narrowed my eyes then widened them in shock. “How so?” I said, “I’ve only known you for a few days and I’m already convinced that you’re a complete freak and a figment of my imagination.”
“Everything is not what it seems to be, Baki. Or should I call you sis?” Aeon said, raising his left eyebrow as he spoke the last sentence. “But—how?” I shook my head. I knew this guy was insane. He was probably just playing mind games with me. But if he claims to be my brother, I’m going to need proof.
“Baki,” he said, putting his hand underneath my chin to lift my head to look at him, “I’ve known you, your whole life. I’m your older bro. If you want proof, well, that’s pretty easy.” He pulled his wallet out of his back pocket and opened it. Hundreds of pictures fell out, of us, or just me, and one really caught my eye. I leaned down to pick it up. It was a group shot of me, Aeon, and Sky.
I handed it back to Aeon, not knowing if I could take much more. He smiled when he looked at it. He recited the date, which was only 5 years ago, the first year Fuse came to this earth. I was only 12 when it happened. I shook my head, and told Aeon I had to go.
Me and Hex quickly darted into the S.C.A.M.P.E.R. and headed for Forsaken Valley. I watched as Aeon disappeared into the distance, his beautiful blond hair swaying in the breeze…
Me and Hex arrived in Forsaken Valley not too much later. We headed to the Monkey Skyway Agent, who would take us to Demongo. We talked a little bit, Hex and the monkey talking, laughing and such. I walked over to the E.G.G.E.R. and bought one of the Sooper Dooper capsules, and opened it. It was a Sandtiger Leviathan. But this one was special. Where the white usually was, it was black instead. And where it was green, it was silver. And it had great stats. Stronger than my current blade. So I equipped my new Sandtiger Leviathan and walked back over to Hex.
We talked for a little bit; I then told the Monkey Skyway Agent that we needed to hurry. So, we took off ASAP. When we were flying, at least 100 feet above the ground, I looked up at the Monkey Skyway Agent who was holding me and I said, “Please, don’t drop me.” He replied, “No promises, miss.” He then laughed, as I held on for dear life.
When we were close enough to the ground, he dropped me off. Hex landed first, so he walked over to Demongo. I followed closely behind Hex. I had never seen Demongo before, all I know is that he’s a soul collector, and possibly one of the bad guys. Didn’t Hex mention Demongo formerly worked for Aku?
That’s when I saw him. Glowing flames on top of his head, eyes that could pierce straight into your soul, and a smile that could strike fear into even the bravest warrior. I kinda hid behind Hex, as they talked and such. What shocked me was his voice. It was so high pitched, it could probably shatter glass. But that smile… and his shirt was literally made out of skulls. I don’t trust him already.
Hex turned around to face me as he said, “This is the young miss Baki I’ve told you about.” He kinda pushed me towards Demongo, as I attempted to look up in a friendly way. (He was a few feet taller than me. It didn’t help that he was floating 2 feet off the ground either.) He stuck his hand out, obviously wanting me to shake his hand, so I did. I was trembling nervously. Never have I been so scared in my life. Demongo then said, “Heeex has told me sooooo much about you, miiiiss Bakiiii… You seem neeeervous… What’s wrooong? Do I scaaare you?”
All I could do was nod.
He laughed an insanely evil laugh, as I trembled and attempted to hide behind Hex. Demongo seemed to roll his eyes, (I couldn’t tell if he did or not. He has no pupil!) He then sighed. Hex told him about the whole thing with Sky, and asked if he would help. Demongo nodded, and then said, “Thissss could be fuuuun.”
Hex and Demongo talked for a little bit as we walked back to Forsaken Valley. When we got to the Fireswamps, I asked Demongo if I could see some of his abilities in action. So, we walked over to a crowd of Lizard Queens, and Demongo launched one of his skulls into the midst of them, and then shot some kind of beam from his hands at the skull.
A blue tiger thing appeared out of nowhere. It attacked and defeated the Lizard Queens. When it was done, it turned into black smoke and was absorbed by one of the skulls that made up Demongo’s shirt. “Wow,” was all I could say. I would never want to ever be in a fight with Demongo. But I have a new kind of respect for him. Maybe this is a start of a friendship?
Hex and Demongo talked a little bit more and laughed and such. I listened in and laughed at certain parts too, but I was deeply concerned for Sky.
We were finally in Forsaken Valley, and we talked to the S.C.A.M.P.E.R. Agent. We left for City Station and were there within 30 minutes. We went to the location of where I last saw Sky, and he was still there, chained to the ground. He was standing up, and the highest he could lift his hands was his waist.
“Well, this is him.” I said. It then started raining.
“Thiiiiis is Sky? He seeeems so… weeeak.” Demongo simply pointed out.
“I’ve been stuck here for the past two days! Let’s see you try that, freak!” Sky said, clearly ticked off at Demongo.
“Sky,” Hex said, “You need to calm down. We’re here to help you.”
“Like I haven’t heard that before!” Sky said, as he ranted on, “So why did you bring your freak team, eh Baki? You came here to change me back to the way I was before didn’t you? Well what if I said I hated the old me? That I love the way I am now as much as I previously loved you? I will never be the old Sky you knew and you know it! Nothing will ever be the same and you just have to accept that! I will never love you again!”
The last sentence he said hurt the most, as he leaned back against the building wall.
“No,” I said. “There’s no way that you love this as much as you loved me! You call them a freak team when they’re my friends! If they’re freaks then,” I repeated Sky’s words from earlier, “Then I’m a complete freak! You just have to accept that I love you! And I always--”
“ENOUGH!” Some girlish voice from behind yelled. I turned around to see a girl, probably in her mid-teens, wearing black jeans with a black shirt to match, bright red eyes, and... Green skin? This must be the Fusion Darkstar that Black Light mentioned.
“I see you finally made it, Darkstar.” Sky said sweetly.
“I would never forget you, Sky.” Fusion Darkstar replied, kissing him on the cheek.
I made a gagging sound. I looked at Hex, he then looked at Demongo, and Demongo nodded. Demongo made some weird hand signs that I had no idea what they meant, as Demongo launched some kind of energy ball toward Sky. It hit Sky directly in the chest, knocking the wind out of him, as some black—almost liquid looking—substance pooled around his feet, the rain splashing around it, then Hex launched a ball of light toward the black substance and it disappeared.
Sky dropped to his knees. I ran over to him to make sure he was alright. His hair was soaked from the rain, and he looked even hotter. “B-B-Baki? Is that you?” Was all he could manage to say. “Sky, it’s me, Baki. I’m here for you. I’ve always been here for you.” As we both stood up. Hex and Demongo broke Sky’s chains, and removed the cuffs from around his wrists. He rubbed his wrists and I hugged him. I let go and started to make my way out of the alley with Hex and Demongo. Sky kinda stayed behind.
Fusion Darkstar was not happy though. She removed her blade from its sheath, and all I heard was a shink. I said, “Sky? Are you coming?” As I turned around and saw Sky laying on the ground.”Sky!” I screamed. I ran over as his breathing became shallow and fast. I dropped to my knees—not caring if I was getting soaked by the rain—to hold him in my arms.
“Baki,” he said, “Please… Will you avenge my death? Fuse is controlling Fusion Darkstar… She is his eyes and ears… Please avenge my death. Please don’t let me die in vain…” As his body went limp and cold.
I screamed at the top of my lungs. So loud birds from three buildings over flew away. Demongo started crying, and Hex walked over to me and patted me on the back and said, “Baki… Things like this happen. There’s nothing we can do.” As he closed his eyes and slowly backed away from me.
“You’re right.” I said. “You’re right. There is nothing we can do.” I then stood up. “This world hates me doesn’t it? This world hates me and Sky for no good reason! He didn’t have to die! If you hadn’t come up with that stupid plan of yours we wouldn’t be here right now and Sky wouldn’t be dead!” I hissed. I stood up and walked to face Fusion Darkstar. The smug look on her face dissipating as I walked over to her, the dark look in my face scared her completely. I got way up in her face. She began to tremble. I asked her, “Why. Why do you do these things?” She got all brave suddenly and said, “I am Fuse. I can do whatever I wish to and there’s nothing you can do. Remember that thing you thought was a Canyon Stalker? That was me. I was spying on you and Sky. You know that goth kid? Ryk? That was me as well. Every bad thing that has happened to you, is my doing.”
She then attacked me. I smacked her with the side of my Sandtiger Leviathan, knocking her out cold.
I then walked out of the alley, not caring about anything anymore. I turned around and you should’ve seen the looks on Demongo’s and Hex’s faces. They were so shocked. I had no idea why or anything. I noticed the alley was being lit from some kind of light… and the sound of feathers seemed to come from behind me. Out of the darkness, a figure walked towards me. I grabbed a hold of my Sandtiger Leviathan, ready for anything.
The figure started clapping its hands. “Congrats sis,” It said.
It took a moment for my brain to register that it was Aeon.
“Seems you’ve inherited the ‘family gift.’” He said.
“Huh?” I said, truly confused by this situation.
“Ahem,” he walked over to me, “do you not see it?”
I looked over my shoulder to see 6 beautiful angel wings.
“WHAT? WHAT DID YOU DO?” I yelled.
“Hey hey hey. I didn’t do anything.” He then crossed his arms. “If anything, blame our parents.”
I had to think about that for a minute.
“Our parents didn’t disappear on a trip to Forgotten Falls, did they.”
“Nope.” Aeon said.
“I-I-I’ve got things to do.” I said, looking for an excuse to leave ASAP.
“Alright. Will you need any help?”
Yeah. Yeah I will. Was what I wanted to say. Instead, I said, “No. I’ll be fine. This is my doing, and I need to fix it myself. Yes, Hex, Demongo, that means you have, to stay here. I’m going alone this time.” I walked out of the alley, and onto the sidewalk, away from my friends, away from Aeon, away from Sky, away from everything.
I walked all the way back to City Station as the rain poured down around me, turning my beautiful white angel wings a damp grey. I threw my hood up, I was used to walking alone. I put my hands in my pockets, sulking. When I made it to City Station, it was like a ghost town. Everyone was inside their homes, watching movies, playing video games, etc. While I, Baki TwilightFire, the freak and loner, the one that lost everything, sulks out in the rain, looking for a way to cure my depression. I then remembered what Sky said. She is being controlled by Fuse… She is his eyes and ears… Please avenge my death… Don’t let me die in vain… I then knew what I had to do. I ran as fast as I could to the tower in the center of City Station. I didn’t wait for the platform; there really was no time. I climbed up the side, and then I realized that I had angel wings now. I jumped off the side of the building, and flew upwards ‘till I got to the major platform.
I talked to the S.C.A.M.P.E.R. Agent, telling him that it was an emergency and I needed to get to Forsaken Valley ASAP. In the time that the previous events took place, I had gone from 27 to 36.
I hurried to the Monkey Skyway agent and headed to the Precipice.
I hopped on my hoverboard and made it go as fast as I could without breaking it. I crossed the bridge, ignoring the monsters that were following me, and went to Fuse’s Lair. I ditched the hoverboard and ran to the portal that led to Fuse’s Throne.
When I was inside, I kid you not, there were at least 30 Fusions in there. I ran forward—fearlessly—I was too depressed and angry to think clearly. I attacked them, one at a time, until they all were defeated. I recognized one, Fusion Demongo, so I stole one of the skulls from him and jumped on the jump pad, up to the next platform, and to the zipline, which would take me across the lake of Toxic Fusion Matter.
I reached the other side as fast as I could. I needed to avenge Sky, no matter the consequences. Even if it meant my own death, I would avenge Sky. That was a risk I was willing to take. I’ve always been one for luck and chance. I may not be ready for this one…
I landed on the other side, attacking every monster in my way. If I went down now, there would be no hope for Sky. I couldn’t be defeated yet.
I flew up to the top platform, right before I would reach Fuse. I stood there for a minute, thinking about my options, how I’m putting everything I love to chance, even my own life. The moment of truth, I thought, Everything will be put to chance, and I may not make it. With this sudden realization, I realized how ridiculous my plan was. I started laughing.
I decided to go through with it, so I then grabbed the zipline, my heart sinking in my chest.
I took a deep breath, nausea and nervousness closing in, my breathing became fast, my fingers are jerking and twitching, and I have the feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach.
I cracked my knuckles and held on for the ride down the zipline. I had no idea Fuse was so big. It didn’t matter. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. I landed on the other side, walking confidently down the row that would lead me to Fuse. I closed my eyes and breathed deeply. I hopped on the bounce pad to confront him.
He looked down at me, as if I were nothing more than an ant.
“Baki,” he said, in a rough, deep voice, “I’ve been expecting you.”
“Shut it!” I screamed at him, “I’ve had enough of you! You’ve done enough! You messed with my brother, you killed Sky, and I will be with him again. For all the scars on my heart, you will pay!”
“Oh yes,” Fuse replied, “You’ll be with him again. In the afterlife!”
He then launched some kind of energy ball at me. Using my newfound split-second reflexes, I dodged it.
“This could be interesting.” Fuse said.
“It’ll be interesting. I’ll be the first girl in history to actually rid this world of you. I’ll make sure you go back to your own planet.”
“No one knows how to actually defeat me. Only I know. And you shall never know. And you’ll never know how to get your ‘Sky’ back either.”
“WILL YOU SHUT UP?!!!” I screamed. “YOU KILLED HIM AND YOU SHALL PAY! I’LL MAKE SURE I’M THE ONE THAT MAKES YOU FALL! YOU SHOULD’VE NEVER MESSED WITH ME! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO YOU’RE DEALING WITH--”
“SILENCE!” He then launched out a hand and grabbed me. He brought me close to his face. “Immature child!” he hissed. “You have no idea who you’re dealing with either.” He then sent an electric shock throughout my body, causing me to scream in pain. I knew I wouldn’t last long at this rate. I struggled to get my old blade. I grabbed it, and attacked his hand with it. He howled in pain, and dropped me.
I was covered in Toxic Fusion Matter, which stung. He launched a huge fireball at me. It almost completely missed me, but it caught my hand in the process. I got the flames out finally by patting it out with a shirt. My left hand was burned, but not severely. But it still hurt to move it. I looked angrily at Fuse. I put away my blade and grabbed my Sandtiger Leviathan.
His eyes widened at the sight of my Sandtiger Leviathan. “Y-y-y-you—how? How is a child able to possess the Sandtiger of Legend?” he then whispered. “The only weapon that could truly defeat me.” He trembled in fear.
My eyes narrowed sinisterly. I knew what would happen next. He’d try to destroy my Sandtiger Leviathan.
I held it with one hand. It was surprisingly light. My left hand dangled uselessly by my side.
I fired a few black energy balls from my Sandtiger Leviathan. He dodged for fear he’d get hurt.
“ENOUGH CHILD!” he launched his other hand out at me. Before it hit me, I launched a few more energy balls at it, wounding his hand.
“Seems like we’re even.” I said, glancing down at my burnt left hand.
“Not exactly. You’re still at a disadvantage. No matter how many people come to defeat me, few manage to. Like your brother… what was his name… Oh! Aeon! That’s right. He couldn’t even manage to save his girlfriend. It took me to split the light and darkness in his heart. I did him a favor, the way I see it.” He then continued; “Black Light’s one of my more interesting creations--”
“SHUT UP!” I fired a few energy balls at his chest.
He winced in pain. “Seems I’ve hit a soft spot?”
“I’m tired of you. I’ve had enough of your lies. I’ve had enough of your control over this world. I’m a rebel. And get ready to taste defeat. At the hands of someone you know you could never beat. I’ll be declared a hero tonight. Watch that from your own planet.”
I fired at least 100 energy balls at him. He winced, then began to laugh. His face twisted into a sinister smile. He raised his one good hand above his head, and a green-ish white light began to glow around it. I looked in fear, as it began to swell. The ball of energy became huge, and he lowered his hand onto the ground. An energy blast hit me, knocking the wind out of me, and making me fall unconscious.
The last thing I remember after that was evil laughter.
I was floating through darkness. Endlessly, and it seemed like forever.
Until I saw his face.
Until I saw Sky’s face.
I suddenly awoke, Fuse’s smile dissipating. He knew something happened. He knew this was the end. I knew as well. Fuse was going to be defeated at my hand.
I fired so many times. I launched up, unforgiving. “GRAH!” I yelled. “DO YOU REGRET YOUR DECISIONS NOW?!”
Landing on the balls of my feet, I turned away from Fuse.
“You seem bitter.” Was all Fuse could manage to say, pain tinting his voice.
“You seem weak.” Was my short-and-simple reply.
“You caught me at a bad time.”
“Yes, but I don’t seem to care. You caught me at a bad time as well.”
“Yes, I know. You love something just to find out you’ve lost it. Then you get it back in time just to lose it again. This time it is forever.”
“You have no idea what pain you put me through.”
“You’re right. I don’t.”
“And you never will. I’m finishing you off, here and now. You’ve put so many people in so much pain. That is unforgivable.”
“Do your worst.” He taunted.
“I will. You can make sure of that.”
I repeatedly attacked. I launched at least 1000 energy balls at him, yet they did nothing. He laughed.
I had to think for a minute. If it was launching black energy balls, didn’t that mean they were darkness? So if somehow I could get them white… Hmmm. I got an idea!
I somehow got my left hand into the Sandtiger Leviathan. I concentrated on everything I loved, everything I’ve ever held dear. I fired a white energy ball directly at Fuse’s chest. His eyes opened wide as it hit him. He gasped in pain, then dropped and disappeared.
I dropped to my knees not believing what I had just done. It was over. I had defeated Fuse, and saved earth. I had avenged Sky’s death. The thought of that made me cry. I wasn’t sure whether it was because I was depressed because of Sky’s death, or because I avenged his death.
“Baki?” I heard a voice behind me say.
My eyes opened wide as I turned around.
It took me a minute but then I realized it was Sky.
“Sky!” I screamed.
“Baki!” he ran over to hug me.
“Sky… I thought you were dead.”
“I was. You defeating Fuse brought me back.”
“I—I—saved you?”
He nodded.
“Oh, I love you Sky.”
“I love you too, Baki.”
As we kissed, the stars and a crescent moon revealed themselves as the Fusion Matter disappeared around us, revealing the beautiful field we were standing in.
The end of I-N-F-L-U-E-N-C-E.
I looked at him in shock with an answer that would shock no one, “No.” He looked at me and said, “This is something I must do.” As the tears fell from my eyes I wrapped my arms around him, and squeezed nearly as hard as I could, my face buried in his chest. As the words came out in mumbled sobs yet he clearly understood, I said, “If you leave you take me with you. I really don’t care what you have to do. I’m coming with no matter what you say.” He wrapped his arms around me and said, “You can’t come.” He put his hand underneath my chin to lift up my head so I could look at him. He looked me in the eyes, and said, “This is something I must do alone. You can’t come with me, Baki.” He pried my arms off of him and walked away. I ran after him, I didn’t catch up though. I silently whispered;
